Just like new commercial buildings, new parking lots require detailed planning to make sure they’re constructed right. It’s important to hire professionals who know the new parking lot construction process in and out in order to have the project go smoothly.

Before we hit the ground running, we need to know the soil type that the new parking lot will sit on. Not all soils are the same, so the process and materials aren’t the same either. Your lot needs a solid foundation, and that starts with understanding the soil.

Then, we’ll figure out the exact size of the parking lot and start excavating. We have to dig up and remove what currently exists there, whether that’s a large grassy field, or an old parking lot from businesses past that was never maintained.

At this time, we also take the slope of the parking lot into account and find where the drainage will go. We grade to avoid any low spots where water could potentially gather, known as ponding. Our laser profiling technique ensures that we find the proper drainage points for your new lot.

Next, the aggregate base is placed and compacted—the thickness of this base will depend on the type of soil beneath it. Having a stable and solid foundation underneath the pavement helps the asphalt on top stay in good condition over its lifespan.

One of the last steps is to lay and compact a specially designed asphalt mix. If the businesses there will have a lot of heavy vehicles driving on the asphalt, like a warehouse, a special, stronger mix is needed so that the pavement doesn’t buckle under the weight.

Lastly, it’s time for striping and curbing. We’re a one-stop-shop, full-service paving company, so we won’t leave you high and dry after laying the asphalt. When our job is complete, your parking lot will be too.

When your project is done, you have the opportunity to sign up for our free maintenance program. This is especially helpful for new lots, as you want your pavement to last for as long as possible and remain in good condition. Each spring, one of our paving experts will come out and evaluate your lot and let you know if any maintenance is needed. Small fixes here and there are much cheaper than having to replace the entire lot after only a few years.

When you’re ready to start constructing your new parking lot, give us a call. We’re the paving professionals you can trust!
