Now that it’s November, we’ve reached that in-between time: paving companies have to wait until the spring to start up again, and businesses are holding off on big projects as the 2020 budgets are being written and finalized. Do you need to fit a paving job in your 2020 budget? Take a look at the pavement around your business: Is it visibly uneven? Cracking in multiple places? Does water stand for too long? If so, you might want to consider new pavement to improve your curb appeal.

Once you’ve decided your budget needs to include a paving job, how do you choose the right company? Here are a few tips:

  • Is the paving company insured? If a worker gets hurt or there’s an accident with equipment, then you won’t have to worry about getting stuck with the bills for the injury or damage.
  • Do they have reviews? Companies who provide a paving service will rely on reviews and recommendations for potential clients to see evidence of their work. They should have pictures of their finished paving jobs either on the website or their social media along with testimonials and online reviews.
  • Can they customize or work with your budget? Depending on the company, they can offer cost-saving options like reclaiming usable asphalt and include special mixtures for lots that need a harder finish.
  • Do they have the right equipment and crew? In some cases, re-paving a large parking lot could be too much for an unprepared paving company. Ask them if they’ve worked on large projects and how it went. (P.S. A lot of the times their social media/website will give some insight into the kind of equipment they’re using and jobs they’re doing.)

Decisions should never be made solely on the cost of the project. A cheaper paving job will most likely not last as long—especially if you are in a freeze-thaw climate. Ask the company for an estimate and they should be willing to talk prices. If you are located in the Twin Cities area, Metro Paving Inc. has been in the industry for over 30 years, and we offer free estimates and affordable options to help work the job into your budget.
